This is one of the many things I love about how Tyler Hoechlin plays Derek Hale. So okay, Derek just came from the hospital, where he was begging his uncle to give him any sort of sign, anything to lead him in the right direction toward the Alpha. He raised his voice - “Say something!” - and was pretty much kicked out by Peter’s nurse, who told him he just needs to be patient. But here’s the thing: Derek can’t afford patience. People are dying. He needs to end it. He’s frustrated and angry and nobody is helping him.
Then he finds a piece of paper on his car: an article about a deer found dead with a spiral carved into its side. Derek knows the spiral means revenge, a “lifelong vendetta,” and that someone put it there to tell him something, but they didn’t actually give him any answers. Again…anger. He’s totally fed up, you know? This isn’t a fucking game. He’s out of time.
But look at the expression on his face.
That’s not any of the frustration he showed toward the nurse. It’s not the determination he had while talking about the Alpha, when he said “I can take him.” It’s not the exasperation he gives Scott and Stiles.
That is fear. Fear and confusion. That’s a little kid who just glanced up and realized his mom isn’t right next to him anymore. Derek’s not pissed, looking for the asshole who’s taunting him with clues. On the contrary, he doesn’t know what is going on and he’s desperate and God help him, he’s scared.

SPN 2X01 || In my time of dying
I’m re-watching the first seasons almost religiously. I miss young Dean so much. I also miss brothers-centered episodes like this one, which is definitely one of the best of the entire series.
I’ll probably try to color at least one of those drawings in PS, just to see how it looks like.

#There’s a themness to it all now. He has no idea what that means or when he decided this was even in the realm of good ideas. #In the end Derek figured it was useless to try to stop it from happening. #Stiles is this force to be reckoned with. He’s all loud startling laughs and blunt refusals to cooperate. #Stiles pushes. He pushes the limits of everyone around him but mostly he pushes at Derek. They’ve fought plenty over the past year. #It’s always the same catalyst: Stiles is Stiles. Derek is Derek. #The two should not fit into the same metaphorical house #much less into the same small space of connection between two people who find someone kindred in the heart of one another. #but he’s Stiles so he presses when Derek tells him not to and he opens the man up and demands he share himself. #Stiles’ sadness leaves Derek frustrated and angry at nothing and everything. It’s not right. #Stiles should not have his hurt screaming from him and he shouldn’t go so long without laughing. #Derek wants to fix it NOW so he feels a little raw and angry when Stiles acts uncooperative and goes quiet on him. #They fight and they say things they shouldn’t like people do when they’re hurting. #Then they come together after and Derek is gentle still scowling but softer somehow. #Stiles is quieter still pushing but offering more leeway. They always apologize and it’s always okay.
